The Taos Center for the Arts Encore Gallery is pleased to present “ Young Artists of Taos” a juried and invitational art and photography exhibit.

Included in the show are Domonick Ortiz, Noah Lujan, Aiden Suazo and Lara StrangeOwl from the Taos Pueblo Day School Photo Club. These talented and dedicated young people have begun to develop a wonderful eye and appreciation for composition and meaning that shows in their work.

Jivan Lee’s exquisite paintings are crafted with pallet knives and brushes and occasionally he uses gloves, bare hands, and even dirt. His work is heavy with paint and liberal in its response to reality. Sculptor and jeweler Julie Lake has two pieces of her delicate and organic three dimensional stainless steel forms. Jessica Gaddis’s works are sculptural and whimsical with mediums of wax and found objects. Claire Cote is an instructor at Rivers and Birds, both an artist and ecologist her line drawing transfers on cloth capture the dual aspects of her interests and talents. There are two soft and dreamy photographs by Jessica Rone. Klara Wetmore’s copperplate etchings are lyrical, theatrical figures - one titled “Waking of a Fool”. Also in the show are life drawings by Aaron Garlick and Shannyn Thompson, and strong photographic portraits by Adeliza Bacus-Pace.

Star soprano Anna Netrebko takes on the legendary title role in Donizetti’s bel canto masterpiece, which has been a musical and dramatic showpiece for many of history’s greatest singers. The opera, based on the final tragic days of Anne Boleyn, makes its Met premiere in a new production by David McVicar, whose staging of Il Trovatore was a best-selling Live in HD presentation last season. Free theatre camp week is open to all kids entering 1st grade through 12th. You must be available for rehearsals all week from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Those auditioning should arrive at 8:45 AM and plan to stay for the full two hours. Most of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal
immediately following the audition.

Approximately 60 roles are available for local students. All students entering 1st through 12th grade are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary. Most students will rehearse approximately 4 ½ hours each day, Monday through Friday.

What do beer cans, car tires and water bottles have in common? Not much unless you’re renegade architect Michael Reynolds, in which case they are tools of choice for producing thermal mass and energy-independent housing. For 30 years New Mexico-based Reynolds and his green disciples have devoted their time to advancing the art of “Earthship Biotecture” by building self-sufficient, off-the-grid communities where design and function converge in eco-harmony. However, these experimental structures that defy state standards create conflict between Reynolds and the authorities, who are backed by big business. Frustrated by antiquated legislation, Reynolds lobbies for the right to create a sustainable living test site. While politicians hum and ha, Mother Nature strikes, leaving communities devastated by tsunamis and hurricanes. Reynolds and his crew seize the opportunity to lend their pioneering skills to those who need it most. Quick Draw gives visitors to Taos a glimpse at the art process from the beginning, with a chance to bid on the artwork to own the results. Visitors are invited to walk among and talk to up to 40 participating artists as they create.

The Quick Draw will take place on the Taos Center for the Arts’ (TCA) historical grounds at 133 Paseo Del Pueblo Norte in Taos. Live music by some of Taos’ best local performers will accompany the event.

Those interested in purchasing two and three dimensional art in every medium can bid at a spirited auction in the afternoon. All artists' works are for purchase, either at a silent auction or by bid at the live auction at 3 p.m. Proceeds from the auction directly benefit programs within the TCA.

Mediums include: oil paintings, watercolors, acrylics, drawings, mixed media, sculpture, jewelry, stone and glass and wood. All art will be created on site from noon to 3 p.m.
